How to Prepare for the Everest Base Camp Trek

Preparing properly ensures a safer, more enjoyable journey to 5,364 m. Focus on gradual ascent, essential layering, hydration and realistic daily distances. Train cardio & leg endurance, break in boots early and understand altitude warning signs.

Key acclimatization rule: trek high, sleep low. Plan rest days in Namche (3,440 m) and Dingboche (4,410 m). Gain no more than 500–600 m sleeping elevation per day after 3,000 m. Mild AMS symptoms? Communicate early, hydrate, rest; never ascend with worsening headache, nausea or dizziness.

Essential Gear & Layering

Core system: moisture-wicking base, insulating fleece/mid, windproof down or synthetic jacket and waterproof shell. Add warm gloves, liner socks + wool socks, buff, sun hat, UV sunglasses (category 3/4), and 4-season sleeping bag (–10°C comfort). Keep electronics insulated from cold at altitude.

Permits & Local Support

You'll need the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit and Sagarmatha National Park entry. We arrange both along with insured, experienced guides & porters adhering to fair wages and safety standards. Travel responsibly: pack out waste, use refill stations and respect local culture.
